Hollywood star Dwayne Johnson has revealed why he lost around 22 kilograms while preparing for his role in his upcoming film Lizard Music.

The 54 year old actor shared details about his workout routine diet, and fitness journey on Instagram.  He said he did not follow any extreme method to lose weight. Instead he gradually lost about 50 pounds over the course of a year.

Johnson said his current weight is around 105 to 106 kilograms. Despite losing weight he remains happy with his strength, stamina and cardio fitness. He explained that he focused on a careful and planned approach rather than trying to lose weight quickly.

His diet changes

The actor said his carbohydrate intake changes depending on the day. On two leg training days and Sundays he eats around 450 grams of carbohydrates. On other days he keeps his intake between 250 and 300 grams.

He also said that eating fewer carbohydrates can sometimes make his muscles look slightly less full.  To deal with this before workouts he uses rice cakes, honey, and a small amount of salt.

Another film in the works

Johnson has also announced another upcoming movie, The Freebird. In the film he will play a Las Vegas motorcycle stuntman who hides his illness while preparing to perform one final major stunt.

With these projects Johnson is taking on roles that are quite different from his usual action-star image.
