Arsenal have just one representative in the Premier League team of the season so far, while Manchester City supply three players and Chelsea have two included.

A Manchester United target features at left-back, and the player with the highest average rating in the division so far is from Brentford.

GK: Konstantinos Tzolakis – 7.30 Hull’s Greek goalkeeper has opened the campaign with three clean sheets, and Tzolakis deserves plenty of the credit after beginning life in England with the best save percentage in the league at 87.5%, having stopped 14 of the 16 shots on target faced by the Tigers.

LB: Lewis Hall – 7.59 A man-of-the-match display on matchday two in the 2-0 victory away at Tottenham, followed by an assist against Bournemouth the next week, has made Hall the highest-rated left-back so far. The Newcastle player may have signed a new contract, but that is unlikely to end speculation linking the 22-year-old with Manchester United and Liverpool if he continues in this form.

CB: James Tarkowski (Everton) – 7.47 The centre-back has produced steady performances at the heart of Everton’s defence and has not yet received a rating below seven, while also scoring the Toffees’ late equaliser to earn a point at Bournemouth. Tarkowski has also recorded the best aerial duel success rate among centre-backs who have contested at least 20 duels.

CB: Marc Guehi (Manchester City) – 7.41 Guehi spent the opening two matches filling in through midfield, scoring an important equaliser in a man-of-the-match showing on the first day of the season, before moving back into the more familiar role in the centre of Manchester City’s defence, where he looked completely comfortable against Manchester United.

RB: Nordi Mukiele (Sunderland) – 7.18 The Sunderland right-back missed the opening-day loss at Ipswich, but returned with a man-of-the-match performance against Fulham at the Stadium of Light. Only John Egan and Jannick Schuster are averaging more clearances per 90 minutes.

CM: Vitaly Janelt (Brentford) – 7.71 The Brentford midfielder is averaging the most interceptions per 90 minutes and also ranks sixth for tackles per 90. In attack, the German is producing 1.3 key passes per game and has scored against Spurs and Sunderland.

CM: Rayan Cherki (Manchester City) – 7.55 Cherki made a superb start to the season, coming off the bench on the opening weekend to help City fight back and beat Bournemouth with two assists, before scoring a brace at Crystal Palace the following week.

RW: Bukayo Saka (Arsenal) – 7.60 The Arsenal winger has apparently been ‘getting away with murder’, while also scoring three goals during the champions’ flawless start to the defence of their title. There were doubts about Saka’s fitness after an injury-hit World Cup and a shorter break, but there has been no sign of tiredness or physical issues, especially in the opening two matches, with the winger proving to be the match-winner and man of the match at Villa.

LW: Morgan Rogers (Chelsea) – 7.57 Rogers has settled instantly at Chelsea, showing little concern for the pressure attached to his transfer fee. The winger has three goals and one assist in his first four matches, and has arguably formed the best attacking trio in the league alongside Cole Palmer and…

CF: Joao Pedro (Chelsea) – 7.64 The Chelsea striker looks determined to make a statement to Carlo Ancelotti after being left out of the World Cup in the summer. With a new contract secured, Pedro has scored three and created three more, combining four times with Palmer to top the league for goal involvements.
