Hansal Mehta feels ‘actors should take a fee that makes the film feasible’. Talking to Zoom exclusively while celebrating the release of The Buckingham Murders, the director shared his opinion on the ongoing discussion regarding sky-high fees of actors and superstars despite poorer results of their films at the box office.

Hansal Mehta on actors' fees Hansal told us, “I do feel actors are ahead of their market and rationalisation is necessary. If one film has done well, you suddenly shoot your price to a point at which it becomes impossible to make the next film. People need to achieve a certain amount of consistency to be able to do otherwise. They are not enabling films from getting made, and they are also making themselves prisoners to a system where they cannot do all kinds of roles. They cannot experiment. This is something that definitely should need a lot of rationalisation at the moment.” ALSO READ: Hansal Mehta Says Comparison Between The Buckingham Murders, Mare Of Easttown Reeks Of Mediocrity | EXCL He further added, “There's also this talk that entourage is so costly. The entourage is a fraction of the cost. It doesn't really matter; I would rather pay for the entourage but ask the actor to take a fee that makes the film feasible.” Kareena's pay cut for The Buckingham Murders In the same interview, he disclosed that Kareena Kapoor Khan slashed her fees for The Buckingham Murders. “Kareena came into this film. She put her name as a producer. Obviously, she has taken a cut in her fees. She has also put her belief in something that she wanted to do by subsidising her fees and by becoming part of The Buckingham Murders even as a producer,” he shared. The Buckingham Murders released on September 13 in theatres globally in Hindi and English dubs. Co-produced by Ektaa R Kapoor, the film is an investigative thriller set in the United Kingdom.
