EV-D68 Virus Symptoms: Since Covid-19, viruses are attacking the world one after the other. This time cases of enterovirus D68 have been reported in America, which causes paralysis. 

A new virus is looming over the children of America. The name of this virus is Enterovirus D68 (EV-D68). Its specialty is that the body becomes paralyzed at any time due to infection.

This virus has also increased the risk of diseases like polio. This virus targets weak people. This includes children, people with weak immunity or those suffering from any disease.  

The first case came in 2014

The first case of EV-D68 was reported in 2014, and since then it has emerged from time to time like an epidemic. Now this virus has become active again after years. According to American media reports, its cases are increasing suddenly.

Minor symptoms are seen due to infection

According to the Cleveland Clinic , infection with this virus causes very minor symptoms. These include fever, cough, runny nose, difficulty in breathing, and muscle weakness. But in some cases, it can also cause serious problems by affecting the nervous system, due to which the body can also become paralyzed. 

How does this virus spread? 

EV-D68 infection can spread through sneezing or coughing, sharing water or food from the same utensils, and touching contaminated surfaces and objects. According to the CDC report, 13 serious cases of this virus have been reported so far in 2024. In which patients are unable to breathe properly due to Acute Flaccid Myelitis (AFM).

Preventive measures

To avoid this virus, hands should be washed regularly. Get vaccinated for seasonal flu and other related diseases. Ask children to cover their mouth when coughing or sneezing. Stay away from crowded places.

health department advice

The health department has advised parents to take their children to the doctor immediately if they show symptoms of infection . Apart from this, give children adequate water, rest and a balanced diet.
