Bokaro News: The International Conference of APT-FS 2024 titled 'Advances in Processing Technology of Flat Steel Products' began on Friday at the Learning and Development Center of Bokaro Steel Plant. PSL and Indian Institute of Metals, Bokaro Chapter are organizing the two-day event. Addressing the online inaugural session, SAIL Chairman Amarendu Prakash said that in the last 6-7 years, per capita consumption of steel in the country has increased from 50 kg per capita to 95 kg per capita at present. A target has been set to increase the country's steel production capacity to 300 million tonnes per annum by 2030. In such a scenario, along with capacity expansion of the Indian steel industry, achieving the target of reducing carbon emissions is a major priority and challenge for the industry. During the technical session on Friday, improvement of processing technology of flat steel products with niobium, use of recycled energy in green steel production, reduction of GHC in iron and steel through advanced technology, high strength and technology, production of medium magnesium steel, detection of blockage at submerged entry point and analysis, papers were presented on topics such as slag-free eccentric bottom tapping, the effect of cerium on the formation and control of non-metallic inclusions. Chief General Manager (Quality) Manohar Lal delivered the vote of thanks on the first day of the conference. Today on Saturday, there will be a discussion on flat steel products related to the country's strategic needs, production of advanced hot rolled steel sheets for hot forming, prevention of double edge defects in hot rolled coils, microstructure for flat steel products. A road map will be prepared after an in-depth discussion on the strategic needs of the country, all aspects related to establishment and production of low cost and high quality flat steel.
