Afghanistan Star Beats Virat Kohli’s HUGE Record During Record Win Against South Africa

Two days after winning their first-ever international match against the Proteas, Afghanistan secured their second straight victory over South Africa in the three-match series in Sharjah, extending their incredible run in the ODI format. The Afghan batsmen were in control of the first inning, scoring an outstanding 311.

Star wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who hammered a century, was the one who stole the show. He did this to equal a significant mark that the legendary Virat Kohli has.
During the game, Rahmanullah Gurbaz hammered 105 runs off of 110 deliveries. In ODIs, this was his seventh century.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz Matches Virat Kohli’s Huge Record

Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who turns 23 this year, has seven ODI hundreds. Before turning 23, he now has the second-highest amount of tons in the 50-over format. He now has the same number that Virat Kohli did. In the third ODI, he can tie Sachin Tendulkar and Quinton de Kock’s record of eight centuries if he can hit a century.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz Makes Afghan History With A Century

Rahmanullah Gurbaz has now surpassed former wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Shahzad to become the player with the most ODI tons for Afghanistan in history with his seventh ODI century. With six tons under his belt, Shahzad was the current record holder.

Afghanistan Records Greatest-Ever ODI Victory

Afghanistan got off to a strong start after choosing to bat first, thanks to an opening partnership of 88 runs between Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Riaz Hassan. Gurbaz and Rahmat Shah’s century-long relationship came next. Gurbaz was removed from the game after reaching 105, and Shah also reached fifty. Azmatutallah Omarzai scored 86 runs off of 50 balls with an incredible knock. The score for the Afghans was 311.

Against South Africa, Afghanistan’s bowlers, particularly their spinners, were unstoppable. The Proteas team broke down as they were bowled out for 144 after a strong opening partnership between Temba Bavuma and Tony de Zorzee. Nangeyalia Kharote claimed four wickets, while Rashid Khan claimed five.

Afghanistan recorded their largest ever margin of victory in the history of the One-Day Internationals, winning by 177 runs.
