Sanjeev Hans, an IAS officer from the Bihar cadre’s 1997 batch, is now under investigation because of claims of money laundering, bribery, and corruption. Sanjeev Hans’ residences have recently been raided by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Search activities resulted in the recovery and seizure of 2 kilograms of gold bullion and jewelry valued at about Rs 1.5 crore, unexplained cash worth Rs 87 lakh, and 13 kg of silver bullion. In accordance with the guidelines of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002, search operations were conducted at five sites in the three cities of Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata on September 10, 11, and 12.

Sanjeev Hans is who?

Sanjeev Hans is a divisional commissioner-ranked official in Bihar and a Punjabi by birth. He has occupied a number of prominent roles, such as District Magistrate in many Bihar districts. Hans’s father was an officer in the State Administrative Service (PCS), and he had a big effect on him. Hans put a lot of effort into reaching his objective since he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps. He joined the IAS after passing the UPSC examinations. Hans previously graduated with a bachelor’s degree in engineering. As the SDM of the Banka district in Bihar, he started his career in administration.

Unfortunately, his greed and the lure of additional money lured him into dishonest behavior and corruption. The premises of IAS Sanjeev Hans and his close friends were raided by the ED. In 2023, a Bihar Court mandated that the Patna police file a rape case against Sanjeev Hans, a senior IAS official, and Gulab Yadav, a former RJD MLA, for the alleged 2021 rape of a lady in a Delhi hotel. IAS official Sanjeev Hans and former MLA Gulab are accused of gang raping a lady at gunpoint, according to an ANI report.

Hans is said to have overseen the Smart Meter Installation Campaign in Bihar while serving as the Chief Medical Director of Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited (BSPHCL) and Principal Secretary of the Energy Department. According to media reports, the business installing the smart meters may have offered him a Mercedes as a bribe at this time.
