Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, has sent Marcus Rashford a strong warning, voicing worries about his lifestyle off the field and how it can affect his on-field abilities.

Ten Hag said, “Probably he needed some help, by backing him, for instance,” when asked what the difference was between Rashford this season and last. Rashford is finding his form following troubles both on and off the field last season. Ultimately, however, he must do it on his own.

“He has to establish the proper foundation for his life, training, and match attitudes. He’s a class player, so he will perform when he establishes his professionalism. I believe he always knew—every athlete knows, I believe—because you can’t play well if your lifestyle is off.

“When you don’t lead a decent and orderly life away from Carrington [United’s training facility], you don’t achieve the proper levels.” Ten Hag praised Rashford’s mental toughness for overcoming setbacks, criticism, and off-field disciplinary concerns in order to recover his form and serve as a reminder to the football community of his lasting talent.

Ten Hag said, “You need to have some resilience for every player who plays in the Premier League, but especially in this club.” Rashford is expected to spearhead United’s assault against Crystal Palace on Saturday. “A football career is never all up and down; there is always a downhill. You need to handle it.

Marcus has also gone through it. When faced with obstacles, he understands how to overcome them, advance his profession, and elevate his performance. He took charge of it and is now returning. He had a great start to the season; now he has to keep going and become better.
