Saif Ali Khan's Pataudi Palace is often in the headlines. Saif's younger sister, actress Soha Ali Khan, has recently revealed many unheard things about the royal palace. Soha told many things about the expenses of this palace and its maintenance. The actress even told that her grandfather had run out of money while building this royal palace.
This palace built in Pataudi village of Haryana was built by Nawab Iftekhar Ali who was the grandfather of Saif Ali Khan. Actress Soha Ali Khan shared a funny anecdote about her Pataudi Palace. She revealed that her grandfather built it to impress his father-in-law.
Soha Ali Khan recently revealed during an interview with Cyrus Broacha, “My grandmother Sajida Sultan was the Begum of Bhopal and grandfather was the Nawab of Pataudi. They both loved each other for a long time, but my grandmother's father was not ready for marriage because grandfather was a competitive sportsman and grandmother's father was jealous of him. After this, grandfather built the Pataudi Palace to impress grandmother's father.”
Soha further said, "Dada built it in 1935 so that he could get married. He wanted to impress his father-in-law, but while building such a royal palace, he ran out of money for marble. That is why many places in the palace have carpet instead of marble. When you go there and look, you will see a lot of carpets and some of them have marble flooring underneath, but at some places there is normal cement, which is covered with carpet."
The actress said, “Saif was born in 1970, so he became a prince. When he was born, the royal titles were abolished, due to which Saif became a prince and I could not become a princess. In that way, I am not that royal (laughs) However, with this title comes a huge responsibility and a bill too.”
In the same conversation, Soha further said, "I remember my mother keeping track of the expenses of this palace. This palace is so big that instead of painting, it is whitewashed because it is less expensive. We have not brought any new things in it for a long time. However, the architecture of this palace is so beautiful that there is no need to bring new things in it."
This palace built by Nawab Iftekhar Ali in Haryana was earlier in the name of Mansoor Ali Khan, who was the father of Saif Ali Khan. Now Saif Ali Khan is the owner of this palace. This palace has more than 150 rooms and is spread over an area of 10 acres and its cost is Rs 800 crore. This palace has many rooms including drawing room, dining room, bedroom, billiards room. Now this palace is like a farm house for the Pataudi family.
