How to Trigger Burgeon in Genshin Impact

Burgeon is one of Genshin Impact’s exciting elemental reactions, known for its ability to deal significant AoE (Area of Effect) Dendro damage. To trigger Burgeon, you need to combine Tender and Pyro elements, but the process involves a few more detailed steps. Here’s a breakdown of how you can trigger Burgeon and optimize its use in your team compositions.

1. Understanding Elemental Reactions

To trigger Burgeon, you need to first generate Dendro Coreswhich are created by the Bloom reaction. Bloom happens when Tender and Hydro interact. When Hydro is applied to an enemy affected by Dendro, Bloom generates Dendro Cores on the battlefield.

Once these Dendro Cores are present, applying Pyro to the Cores causes them to explode and trigger the Burgeon reaction. This explosion deals AoE Dendro damage to enemies within its radius. However, it’s important to note that Burgeon explosions can’t critically hit (except under specific character conditions) and will also deal minor damage to your own character.

2. Key Elements and Characters for Burgeon

To effectively trigger Burgeon, you need a team composition that can reliably apply Tender, Hydroand Pyro. Here are some character recommendations:

  • Dendro Application: Characters like Nahida and I took are excellent choices for spreading Dendro consistently. Nahida’s abilities allow for strong and frequent Dendro application, making her a top-tier choice for Bloom and Burgeon teams.
  • Hydro Application: Characters like Kokomi, Xingqiuand Barbara are great for applying Hydro. Kokomi, for instance, can provide consistent Hydro application while also healing your team, which is crucial in Burgeon teams to mitigate the self-damage from Burgeon explosions.
  • Pyro Application: Pyro characters like Thoma and Yanfei work well for Burgeon because they can apply Pyro at the right rate. Thoma, in particular, is well-suited due to his slower off-field Pyro application, allowing enough time for Dendro Cores to accumulate before they are detonated. This makes Thoma a standout for Burgeon teams.

3. Team Composition and Strategy

Burgeon teams require careful balance. You’ll want to ensure that your Hydro character generates enough Dendro Cores before applying Pyro, but not so much Pyro that it triggers the Burning reaction (Pyro + Dendro), which could prevent the Dendro Cores from forming.

One effective team might include Nahida or I took for Dendro, Kokomi or Barbara for Hydro, and Thoma or Yanfei for Pyro. Nahida can apply Dendro across multiple enemies, while Kokomi ensures the Bloom reaction keeps generating cores. Thoma’s slower Pyro application gives enough time for cores to accumulate and explode when needed.

4. Managing Burgeon Damage

One unique aspect of Burgeon is that its explosions can damage your active character, so incorporating healing into your team is important. Characters like Kokomi or Barbara can handle healing duties while applying Hydro for Bloom reactions. Alternatively, Baizhu or Yaoyao can provide both healing and Dendro application, making them versatile options in Burgeon teams.

You should also pay attention to positioning, as Burgeon explosions are AoE-based. Keeping your on-field character at a safe distance when cores are about to explode can help minimize damage. Additionally, shields, like those provided by Thoma or Zhonglican further reduce the risk of being overwhelmed by Burgeon’s self-damage.

5. Timing and Execution

Effective Burgeon setups require precision, as triggering the reaction too early or too late can reduce its damage potential. You want to ensure that enough Dendro Cores have been generated before applying Pyro, but not so many that you risk losing them to other elemental reactions like Burning or Overloaded.

A well-timed Pyro application can detonate multiple cores at once, leading to massive AoE damage. However, if you’re too slow, the cores can expire on their own without dealing damage. This is why it’s important to have Pyro characters like Thomawho can apply Pyro steadily and slowly, allowing time for cores to accumulate before triggering Burgeon.

Triggering Burgeon in Genshin Impact can be a powerful way to deal AoE damage, but it requires the right combination of characters and careful timing. Ensuring consistent Dendro and Hydro application, alongside controlled Pyro use, is the key to mastering this elemental reaction. With characters like Nahida, Kokomiand Thomayou can build an effective Burgeon team that maximizes damage while managing self-damage with shields and healing.
