Iran’s 5.2-magnitude earthquake claimed 28 lives

A 5.2-magnitude earthquake that rocked Bojnurd County in the Iranian region of North Khorasan caused at least 28 injuries.

The Iranian Seismology Center reports that the earthquake happened on Sunday at 16:13 local time at a depth of 8 km. Local media stated that there had been four foreshocks, including two earthquakes with magnitudes of 4.7 and 4.1 in the same county.

Taqi Dolatabadi, the chief of the province medical emergency and disaster management department, was described by the local media as stating that the majority of those wounded in the main earthquake had fractures and mental damage, with 18 of them undergoing initial treatment and others still receiving medical attention.

The province’s fast response teams, medical emergency staff, and centers were all on high alert, according to Xinhua news agency, which cited the state news agency IRNA.

Iran is among the seismically active nations in the world, and the last few years have seen a number of very destructive earthquakes.
