Newcastle's Carabao Cup third-round clash with AFC Wimbledon has been postponed.

The Magpies were scheduled to take on the League Two outfit at The Cherry Red Records Stadium on Tuesday night, though the tie will no longer go ahead.

Storms have swept across the United Kingdom over the past few days, and rainfall in London appears to have taken its toll on Wimbledon's stadium.

Eddie Howe's press conference this morning (Monday) was cancelled as a result, and Wimbledon have since announced that the tie has been postponed.

The Magpies were keen to bounce back to winning days against their EFL opposition after they tasted defeat for the first time this season at the weekend.

Newcastle were put to the sword by Fulham on Saturday, with Marco Silva's side cruising to a 3-1 victory thanks to goals from Raul Jimenez, Emile Smith Rowe and Reiss Nelson.

Harvey Barnes scored for the Magpies' for his second goal in as many games to make it 2-1 before Fulham bagged a late third to confirm the three points.

Speaking after the defeat, Howe said: "Today was the worst we've played, especially in the first half. In the other games, it's not been perfect but there's been solidity but today, defensively, we were not good enough and we're going to work to put it right.

"Joe (Willock) did so well against Wolves and I felt it was right to reward him with a start, but then you see the game and I question whether that was the right decision from myself so I'll take responsibility for that."

After watching Newcastle's defeat, Wimbledon might have headed into the clash with fresh hopes of causing a major third-round upset.

They have won four of their opening six matches of the season and drawn once, including a marquee victory over fierce rivals MK Dons.

Johnnie Jackson's side were held to a 0-0 draw away at Bradford over the weekend though and would need to have improved markedly to be in the hat for the next round of the draw.

It is unclear when the match will be rescheduled.
