Vaas remains one of the top fast bowlers in cricket history, having taken a total of 761 wickets across all formats—400 wickets in ODIs, 355 in Test matches, and 6 wickets in T20 internationals. His records are a testament to his incredible skill and impact on the game.
Chaminda Vaas produced one of the most iconic performances in 2001 against Zimbabwe. In a stunning display of bowling, he dismantled the Zimbabwean batting lineup, bowling them out for just 38 runs. This devastating spell included 8 wickets in 8 overs, with Vaas conceding only 19 runs, including 3 maiden overs.
During this spell, he became a nightmare for the Zimbabwean batsmen, and the team couldn’t even reach 40 runs, being dismissed in just 15.4 overs. Apart from Stuart Carlisle who scored 16 runs, none of the other batsmen could even reach double figures.
Sri Lanka easily chased the target in just 4.2 overs, with Vaas also claiming his first-ever hat-trick in the same match. He picked up consecutive wickets in the 10th over, dismissing Carlisle, Craig Wishart, and Tatenda Taibu.
