Chennai: For the first time in the 45th Chess Olympiad, India has started a new era by winning gold medals in both men's and women's categories. After this amazing success for India for the first time, the players returning were warmly welcomed at the Chennai airport. During this, among the Indian chess players, the brother-sister duo R Praggnanandhaa and R Vaishali were given a grand welcome.

Brother-sister duo Praggnanandhaa and Vaishali Rameshbabu, who were part of the Indian men's and women's chess teams, were given a warm welcome at the Chennai airport. The Indian men's and women's teams won their first gold medals at the 45th Chess Olympiad on September 22.

Welcome at the airport

The pair, who were returning to India with gold, were felicitated at the Chennai airport. There were many fans present to welcome them at the airport. They were taking selfies with the players.

R. Prajnanananda said

On winning the gold medal at the 45th Chess Olympiad, Indian chess Grandmaster R. Praggnanandhaa said, “Both the men’s and women’s teams won the gold medal. This is a very historic achievement. There are very few teams who have won both medals at the same time. We are winning for the first time. This is a very proud moment for all of us… This win will make chess accessible to more people.”

R Vaishali shared her experience

Grandmaster Vaishali Rameshbabu on winning the gold medal at the 45th Chess Olympiad said, “I am very happy to be a part of the gold medal winning Indian team. Both the men's and women's teams have won gold medals. It is like a historic moment. I am very happy that this time both the men's and women's teams managed to perform well…”

Won gold by defeating Azerbaijan

In the final round of the tournament in the men's category of the 45th Chess Olympiad, the Indian men's team of D Gukesh, R Praggnanandhaa, Arjun Erigaisi, Vidit Gujrathi and Pentala Harikrishna defeated Slovenia to win the gold medal. Meanwhile, in the women's category, the Indian women's chess team of Harika Dronavalli, R Vaishali, Divya Deshmukh, Vantika Agrawal and Tania Sachdev also won the gold medal by defeating Azerbaijan 3.5-0.5.
