Detonators, pillars, fish plates on the track… 8 incidents on railway tracks in 3 months, what is their story?

In three months, eight cases of conspiracy to derail trains have come to light. The pattern in all these cases is the same. The only difference is that as part of the conspiracy, somewhere a detonator was found placed on the railway track, somewhere the pole or the slip plate of the track was opened. From the first one or two incidents, it seemed that some lunatic must have done this as a joke. But, when such cases started coming to light continuously and following the same pattern, the suspicion of a big conspiracy became stronger.

Now even all the government agencies have started believing that the reason behind these incidents is a terrorist conspiracy. The agencies have also arrested some people after each incident. However, till now all these incidents do not seem to be connected. The agencies engaged in investigating the case suspect that all these incidents have been carried out by terrorist organizations sitting outside the country through their operatives or sleeper cells. The officials believe that these incidents cannot be the work of any local criminal.

Local criminals cannot do the job

According to these officers, if this work was theirs, they would have seen financial gain in it. Whereas in these incidents, only dead bodies were expected to be scattered. No one is getting any financial gain from these incidents. According to the investigation agencies, such targets are usually of terrorist organizations. The bomb blast in Samjhauta Express is also an example of such incidents.

3 months and 8 incidents

  • 18 July: 12 coaches of a train going from Chandigarh to Dibrugarh derailed in Gonda. Two people died and many passengers were injured.
  • 20 July: 6 coaches of a goods train derailed in Amroha. Due to this incident, the Lucknow-Delhi route remained closed for several hours.
  • August 11: Goods train carrying coal for the power plant derailed in Sonbhadra.
  • August 17: 22 coaches of Sabarmati Express derailed in Kanpur.
  • September 8: A gas cylinder was found on the railway line on the route of Kalindi Express going from Farrukhabad to Kasganj.
  • 21 September: Attempt to overturn train by opening slip plate of railway track in Surat
  • September 22: Attempt to overturn goods train in Kanpur; gas cylinder found on track.
  • 22 September: 10 detonators were found on that track in Khandwa. A special army train was passing on this track.
  • September 23: Attempt to overturn a train on Bathinda-Delhi track by placing iron rods on the track.

Big accidents were averted, otherwise millions of lives would have been lost

Earlier, the investigation of these cases was being done separately. Now the central agencies have started investigating all these cases together. Along with this, the agencies are trying to investigate what is the connection and purpose behind all these incidents. According to the investigating agencies, it was fortunate that none of these incidents reached its conclusion and major accidents were averted with minor losses. According to the officials, if the terrorists had got even 50 percent success in these 8 incidents, then lakhs of people would have lost their lives.
