Highlights of the ICC Test Rankings released on Wednesday included Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant’s re-entry into the top 10 among batsmen and the continued ascent of players Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jasprit Bumrah.

Pant made his Test comeback, resuming his position at sixth in the batting order after smashing a century in India’s second-inning triumph against Bangladesh in Chennai.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, a fellow countryman, surpasses Pant’s 731 rating points with 751, moving up to fifth position mostly because of a fifty-score in the first Test match innings.

With two ratings below double digits, Rohit Sharma fell five spots to 10th position, although he still maintains his top-10 ranking (716 rating points). Star batsman Virat Kohli also slipped to number 12, marking a five-spot decline after a dismal performance in Chennai, when he was only able to score 6 and 17 in each of the two innings.

Young opener Shubman Gill also moved up five positions to number 14 after hitting a century of strikes.

Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who claimed five wickets in the Chennai Test, including a four-wicket haul, maintained his position as the number two bowler in the Test rankings with 854 points, only a few points behind Ravichandran Ashwin, who took six wickets to maintain his top spot among bowlers with 871 points. Additionally, Ravindra Jadeja moved up to sixth place.

The elite Indian all-round duo of Jadeja (ranked first with 475 points) and Ashwin (ranked second with 370 points) have not wavered in their dominance in the long format. While Jadeja claimed five wickets in the match, including three in the second innings, to help defeat Bangladesh for 234 runs while defending 515 runs, Ashwin had excelled with a six-wicket haul and a counterattacking 113 in the first innings. In the first inning, he had a 199-run partnership with centurion Ashwin and scored a brilliant 86 to demonstrate his dependability at the plate.

Changes in the top 10 bowling rankings were also brought about by the Test action in Galle. After a nine-wicket match against New Zealand, Sri Lanka’s Prabath Jayasuriya, who is regarded as one of the greatest spinners in the game, moved up five spaces to eighth place.

Jayasuriya (743) has surpassed Asitha Fernando, who dropped two ranks to 13th (700), to become the highest-ranked player representing Sri Lanka in all three disciplines. Other notable movers in the triumph were Dhananjaya de Silva, who gained five positions to 18th on the All-Rounder Rankings (168), and Kamindu Mendis, who moved up three spaces to 16th in the batting rankings.
