Filmmaker Karan Johar speaks up about how fans have come to identify a specific image with their favorite actors over time. He draws attention to the fact that Shah Rukh Khan’s experimental movies, like as “Paheli” and “Asoka,” haven’t exactly won over fans. Johar reiterated that fans had distinct expectations of SRK because of his celebrity status and character. Thus, the “Don” actor isn’t free to try new things or play subdued parts. Conversely, Aamir Khan has been known as a “game-changer” who has changed the tone of Indian film. Pracing his performances in films like as “Lagaan,” “Dil Chahta Hai,” and “Taare Zameen Par,” Johar discussed his ability to play a variety of characters.

The Hollywood Reporter India roundtable discussion included director-producer Karan Johar delving deeply into the filmographies of Bollywood stars Aamir Khan, aka Mr. Perfectionist, and Shah Rukh Khan, aka Badshah.

“I think Aamir would do,” he remarked, referring to Aamir as a game-changer. One of the movies that will live on in the annals of Hindi cinema is Lagaan. Gadar, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, and Dil Chahta Hai were all released in the same year, making it a very memorable one for Hindi film. Additionally, there was Chandni Bar. Gadar was the business, however. That year, the mainstream movie made its biggest profit. Aamir continued to work on films like as Taare Zameen Par, Rang De Basanti, and Dil Chahta Hai despite Lagaan receiving an Academy Award nomination. The texture was altered by him. He also acted in Ghajini, which revived the Hindi film industry’s tradition of remakes. He really is a game changer, in my opinion.

As the discussion went on, Johar repeated that Shah Rukh had attempted to work on experimental films as well. But his popularity as the “King of Romance” prevented it. It’s not like Shah Rukh didn’t try, he remarked. Asoka, Paheli, he did. Shah Rukh has the attitude that he should do things differently and have an impact. He first collaborated with Mani Kaul, Ketan Mehta, and Kundan Shah.

Johar said, “He never wanted to be the mainstream guy, but after Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, we all made love stories with him.” He aspired to be the mainstream, eccentric celebrity who would revolutionize the film industry. Nobody will permit it now. These days, there are expectations associated with the name Shah Rukh Khan. I hope he plays a more subdued role in the future, but he carries expectations that make it impossible to do a specific sort of movie. This is unfortunate since he is an actor first and a celebrity second. He started out in theater.

Regarding work, Karan Johar is producing “Devara Part: 1,” starring Saif Ali Khan, Jahanvi Kapoor, and Jr. NTR. In addition, he co-produced “Jigra,” starring Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina. Shah Rukh Khan, meanwhile, recently starred in the movie “Dunki” and will next be seen in Sujoy Ghosh’s “King.” However, “Laal Singh Chaddha,” starring Aamir Khan, was a box office failure. Next up for him is “Sitaare Zameen Par.”
