Laxman addressed the myth that athletes had to heal within predetermined timeframes.

In a conversation with PTI, he said, “There is a misconception that the timelines have to be met.”

“I understand that sometimes you know that you will be fit in a particular timeframe, but sometimes the recovery won’t be there (in that time) or the result won’t be seen,” Laxman said.

The experienced batsman gave instances of players who have shown incredible patience and effort, including Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Prasidh Krishna.

“It’s important to follow the rules with patience, but occasionally recuperation might take a bit longer than expected. Along with Shreyas, KL, Prasidh, and many more players, we have seen Jassie (Jasprit Bumrah) and Rishabh Pant’s cases. They were rewarded for their patience, hard work, and perseverance,” he said.

The difficult aspect of the rehab is that the athletes won’t have anything to do for the remainder of the day during the two to three hours that it takes place.

Here, we are discussing professional athletes who spend six to eight hours a day practicing or competing, only to discover that they have been sent to the rehabilitation unit.

“After they heal, they move on to the ground (at NCA), but it just takes four or five hours at most. Therefore, they must have a strong mentality and be able to handle frustration,” he said.
