After bad light chew away one and a half session on the opening day not was a single ball was bowled in the next two days due to rain and wet outfield. Despite losing two and a half days in the game the hosts made sure they win the Test match and eventually got it over in just five sessions. Like always the message from Rohit was simple. “Winning this game was important for us” Ashwin said after the game. “It was a massive win for us in the context of the WTC. When we bowled them out yesterday it was a little after lunch. Rohit was keen that we needed 80 overs to bowl at them. He said even if we get bowled out for 230 its okay. He set the tone with the way he stepped out first ball.” Ashwin who took a match-winning fifer in the first Test in Chennai was at his best again in Kanpur. The veteran off-spinner took five crucial wickets in the second Test to tilt the game in India’s favour. With this win India also consolidated their position at the top of World Test Championship standings. India improved their point percentage to an impressive 74.24 while Bangladesh slipped from fifth to seventh aft losing the series 0-2. The visitors had earlier lost the first Test by 280 runs. Speaking about his own show in the series Ashwin said “You get more bite with the new ball than the old ball. The more you put overspin its harder on this pitch because the ball doesnt leave the surface. Im happy to settle into the rhythm. The revs I put on the ball cannot be underestimated.
