Oct. 2: National airline Air India said on Wednesday that, after the combination of the two airlines next month, aircraft operated by Vistara would begin using the flight code “AI2.”

The airline controlled by the Tata Group said that the Vistara experience would “remain the same,” notwithstanding the merger on November 12. Vistara, a joint venture between Tata Group and Singapore Airlines, and Air India are involved in the merger.

At the moment, Vistara uses the airline code “UK,” while Air India uses “AI.” The corporation claims that for more than a year, both airlines have been putting in a lot of effort to make sure that customers and employees enjoy a smooth transition after the legal and regulatory entity merger.

“The Vistara experience will endure even after the legal organizations and Air Operator Certificates merge on November 12th. A representative for Air India stated in a statement that “Vistara aircraft, crew, and services will continue to operate as before, with AI2XXX flight numbers bookable via airindia.com.”

Simultaneously, Air India’s narrow-body fleet is being improved with the delivery of new aircraft, the complete interior renovation of legacy aircraft, and the extension of Vistara’s catering to Air India.

The spokesman said, “We look forward to building on the proud histories and best practices of both airlines as we form a new airline group of which India can be proud.”

As a critical first step toward the merger, Air India said in July of this year that it had finished standardizing operational processes across essential departments for the four Tata Group airlines. To form a single full-service airline, Vistara, a joint venture between Tata Group (51%) and Singapore Airlines (49%) is being combined with Air India.

Simultaneously, Air India’s subsidiaries, Air India Express and AIX Connect (formerly known as Air Asia), have amalgamated to become a unified low-cost airline.
