The South Korean technology conglomerate has announced it will be rolling out Passkey support across its range of TVs and other devices in its ecosystem at the Samsung Developer Conference (SDC) 2024 held in San Jose on Thursday. It makes signing into their devices even more convenient, while enhancing security. It joins other new announcements made by the South Korean technology conglomerate in artificial intelligence, smartphones, and other key areas.

Passkeys Support for Home Ecosystem

Samsung said it would extend Passkey support to its TVs running on its own Tizen OS from its 2025 models forward. Its AI Family Hub-driven smart refrigerator and other home appliances with AI Home will also support sign-in through the more secure Passkeys.

On the other hand, devices in the company’s home ecosystem will also support web browser-based login by scanning QR codes.

Apart from the development on Passkeys, the announcement also revealed Knox Matrix, which is a blockchain-based, multi-device security solution. It will now extend to more devices, including TVs and home appliances.

Other Announcements

Samsung introduced new features at its developer conference under the SmartThings updates. According to the reports, there is a new feature called Home Insight, claimed to analyse user data, usage patterns, device history, and other statistics collected in real time. This will reportedly present a better home experience to the users.

In addition, all Samsung devices with screens will be provided with SmartThings Hub to make their connection with the partner devices stronger. It also includes Edge AI, which is additional AI capability to the existing connected home devices. For more, the company has also unveiled partnerships with Schlage and Aqara smart key developers to add the SmartThings Door Lock function into the Digital Home Key through the Samsung Wallet application. That will take place next year.

This is additional AI capability for Tizen OS. The Smart Things line of Samsung equipment, backed by a neural processing unit (NPU), will deliver customized experiences. It should be able to listen at appropriate levels of echoes and noise while watching the TV or better note-taking through the style of the writer. Its Multi-Control feature also expands to smart monitors and TVs powered by Tizen.
