World No. 1 Iga Swiatek and her coach Tomasz Wiktorowski have called it quits after an incredible three years together that saw the 23-year-old Pole win four Grand Slam championships and become the best player in women’s tennis.

At the conclusion of the 2021 season, Swiatek only had one major championship to her credit when she recruited Wiktorowski. She went on to win four of her five Grand Slams, move up to the top of the world rankings, and create the greatest winning run of the 2000s—37 straight victories in 2022—all under his direction.

Wiktorowski’s colleagues chose him as the WTA’s Coach of the Year last year.

Swiatek thanked Wiktorowski in an Instagram post for his crucial contributions to her accomplishment. Following three years of the most successful years of my career, my coach Tomasz Wiktorowski and I made the decision to split ways. I want to start by saying thank you very much and how much I value our collaboration.

“Coach Wiktorowski spent three seasons with my squad, during which time I desperately required adjustments and a new perspective on my game. In the short months after we began working together, his expertise, analytical, and strategic mindset, together with his vast tennis knowledge, enabled us to accomplish things I never would have imagined possible.

“Coach Wiktorowski was the one who initially said that our primary objective was to become the best player in the world. We set extremely high standards for ourselves and knew we would win every competition we entered. We won four Grand Slams and other championships with coach Wiktorowski.

“I am excited about what’s ahead, but for now, I want to reflect on all the great things we achieved together with Tomasz,” Swiatek said in a letter.

This past summer, Swiatek and Wiktorowski won an Olympic silver medal together, making 19 of her 22 career championships. Swiatek said in her article that she and Wiktorowski decided to part ways amicably.

“Thank you, Coach. I hope the best for you.” After working so hard and traveling so much over the last three years, I know you’d want to relax and spend some much-needed time with your loved ones. I hope you’ll receive what you need,” she said.

Citing personal reasons, Swiatek withdrew from this week’s China Open, where he was the reigning champion. She said in her article that she is now looking to hire a new coach.

“Given this significant shift on my squad, I’ve given myself a few weeks to begin working with a new coach. I am now having my first conversations with non-Polish foreign coaches since I am prepared to advance in my profession. “I’ll notify you as soon as I make a choice,” she said.
