High blood pressure (BP) can cause plaque to accumulate in the blood vessels of the heart, blocking blood flow and causing a heart attack.
High blood pressure can also affect the kidneys. High blood pressure damages the kidneys and the blood vessels around them, affecting the kidneys' ability to filter waste. Such damage over a long period of time can lead to chronic kidney disease or kidney failure, which may require dialysis or a kidney transplant.

High blood pressure damages the small blood vessels in the eyes, affecting vision. Prolonged high blood pressure can lead to the development of conditions such as retinopathy and optic neuropathy.

High blood pressure (BP) damages the brain, reducing blood supply to the brain which can lead to stroke, dementia and mental retardation.

High blood pressure can lead to PAD (peripheral artery disease), a condition in which the arteries narrow and reduce blood flow to the limbs, including the legs.
