Released in 2003 the film Baghban is an emotional story that continues to resonate with audiences. It revolves around the theme of children neglecting their elderly parents. Well many people dont know that the role of Hema Malini was first offered to Sridevi. Filmmaker B.R. Chopra first approached Sridevi to star opposite Amitabh Bachchan but she declined the role. The main reason for Sridevi to turn down the film was that she believed it wasnt right role for her. She felt that the character which required her to portray Salman Khans mother wasnt good fit for her. Having previously collaborated with Salman in several films like Chandramukhi and Chand Ka Tukda she was uncomfortable taking on the role of his mother. After Sridevi refused to play the role it was offered to Hema Malini. The actress delivered an outstanding performance alongside Amitabh Bachchan. Their pairing in Baghban touched the hearts of audiences. Baghban also enjoyed significant success at the box office. Released on October 3 2003 the film was made with a budget of around Rs 10 crore and grossed Rs 43.11 crore. The films box office earnings gained a remarkable achievement at that time. The story was inspired by the 1937 Hollywood film Make Way for Tomorrow which was later linked to the 1958 Kannada film School Master. While the narrative of the film may be dated but its emotional themes remain just as relevant today as they were when it first premiered. Even today Baghban is considered a classic film with a message that never gets old.
