Tata Curvv EV Real World Range Review: Is It The Most Efficient Sub 25 Lakh Electric Car?

More than ICE cars, EVs have one large buyer consideration when it comes to buyers and that is the range that you get. Simply put, buying the larger battery pack is always a better option in terms of getting more range. The new Curvv EV from Tata Motors has a larger battery pack now with its top-end version having a 55kWh battery pack. That means more range at around 502km as per MIDC test cycle.

There is a smaller 45kWh battery pack version too with a 430km range. We had the Curvv EV for nearly a week and the 55kWh battery pack does give more range than some of the current EVs in the sub 25 lakh price bracket. The real world range with city and sport also used along with eco is around 360-380 while eco mode and highest level regen will result in getting nearer to 400km. Compared to the Nexon EV or other EVs, the larger 55 kwh battery pack brings in more real world range which means you can easily do long trips one way or short trips two ways without charging at all.

Our driving was in peak hour traffic with aircon on and with testing all of the modes. The best way to get the maximum range is when driving in the city in Eco mode with the highest level regen. The regen braking in the Curvv is done via steering paddles and in the highest setting is pretty strong for most low speed bumper to bumper traffic. Also we noticed the good ground clearance which though lower than the ICE Curvv is still a solid 186mm for the 55kWh battery pack.

We recommend the city mode for brisk driving as sport is too quick while eco is more suited for low speed traffic. The city is the default mode too. We liked the power delivery and the performance while it is indeed a big step up from the Curvv while its rear visibility being its only issue in the driving experience. Range wise, this is the highest you can get in the sub 25 lakh price bracket.
