Every Since Stree 2 has released it is making history at the box office and has become the highest-grossing Hindi film of the year. Well if there is one movie that Rajkummar Rao-starrer failed to surpass is Nag Ashwins Kalki 2898 AD. It is the only Indian film to gross over Rs 1000 crore in 2024. Surprisingly none of these films are the most profitable ventures in Indian cinema this year. Well there is a short Malayalam film with Rs 3 crore budget that has outshone them both in terms of profitability. Malayalam cinema had a golden year this year with critically acclaimed and commercially successful films. Movies like Manjummel Boys and Aavesham has done commendable at the box office. Among these films there is a new-age romantic drama Premalu that has been made with a budget of Rs 3 crore and features all-newcomers. It went on to earn Rs 136 crore delivering an impressive 4500% profit. Directed by Girish AD Premalu stars Naslen K. Gafoor and Mamitha Baiju alongside Sangeeth Prathap Shyam Mohan Meenakshi Raveendran Akhila Bhargavan Mathew Thomas and Althaf Salim. Released in February Premalu debuted across multiple platforms. In April it premiered on Disney + Hotstar in Malayalam Hindi and Tamil while the Telugu was available on Aha. The only film that comes anywhere closer to beat Premalu is the Telugu superhero flick HanuMan which earned Rs 350 crore with a budget of Rs 35 crore. Else Kalki 2898 AD made under Rs 600 crore budget earned profit less than 100%. While Stree 2 on the other hand with its lower budget of Rs 60 crore has a higher profit of around 850%.
