Ration shops which have been closed for the last few months in Puducherry will be reopened to distribute rice and sugar. In view of Diwali, 10 kg rice and 2 kg sugar will be distributed free of cost here.

 

The festive season has also begun with the holy festival of Navratri. There is a plethora of offers from the market to online shopping apps. At the same time, now the government is also giving such offers to the public. In fact, Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy has made a big announcement on Sunday. His government has decided to give 10 kg of rice and two kg of sugar for free to ration card holders before Diwali.

 

While talking to the media, Rangasamy said that before Diwali, it has been decided to give free rice to all the families covered under the public distribution system in the Union Territory. Also, the decision to distribute two kg of sugar has been taken keeping in mind the appeals of various parties.

 

 

Lakhs of families will take advantage of free ration

The Chief Minister said that funds have been earmarked for the purchase of rice and sugar for the free distribution scheme. About three lakh families are covered under the public distribution system in the Union Territory.

He also said that ration shops which have been closed for the last few months will be reopened to distribute rice and sugar. The CM said that the employees working in the shops who have not received salary for many months will be given one month's salary when the shops open.
