Anoja Senevirathne, the director general of the department, told reporters in Colombo that census workers will be going to homes all over the country to get important information.

According to Xinhua, she said that about 50,000 government workers would be used as enumerators.

Sri Lanka has a population count every 10 years, but the process was pushed back because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic crisis, she said.

The South Asian country’s most recent population count was in 2012.
