In Unnao, UP, a young man committed suicide after seeing the electricity bill. Shivam Rajput, resident of Kushalpur Vasaina village of Achalganj police station area, committed suicide by hanging himself after seeing the increased electricity bill. The family members of the youth have blamed the electricity department for this incident. The family members have accused Shivam of committing suicide by hanging himself after the electricity department increased the electricity bill. Shivam Rajput used to support his family by working as a labourer.

Mahadev, father of deceased Shivam, alleges that the electricity bill of his house was sent last month for more than one lakh due to the negligence of the electricity department. This time the electricity bill of Rs 8 thousand has been sent. In such a situation, the son became mentally disturbed after receiving such a huge bill. Shivam's father told, I had gone to work in the fields when his son went into the straw room and committed suicide by hanging himself from a pole.

Took electricity connection by depositing Rs 600

It is being told that the deceased Shivam had taken the electricity connection in 2022 by depositing Rs 600. There are no other electrical appliances in the deceased's house except two bulbs, a fan, and a TV. An electricity bill of Rs 1 lakh 9 thousand 221 was sent by the electricity department on 1 September 2024. After the complaint, the bill was reduced to Rs 16,377, which was deposited by Shivam on September 14. However, on October 7, the electricity department again increased the bill to Rs 8,223, due to which, due to mental distress, Shivam went to his room and committed suicide by hanging himself.

After the incident, there was an uproar among the family members. On receiving the information, the police reached the spot, took possession of the body and sent it for post-mortem. Investigation of the increased bill of the electricity department revealed that the bill of Rs 8,223 was only Rs 150. Electricity department officials are saying that due to technical deficiency in online bills, higher bills are coming.
