A 43-year-old man was arrested for sexual harassment after he allegedly “inappropriately” touched a fellow female passenger while she was asleep on a Delhi-Chennai IndiGo flight on Wednesday.

The woman claimed that the man, who was seated behind her, touched her while she was asleep. The suspect, identified as Rajesh Sharma, is a sales executive originally from Rajasthan but has been living in Chennai for a long time.

The woman filed a police complaint with the help of airline staff after the flight landed at Chennai’s Meenambakkam airport, as per Hindustan Times report.

An officer at the All Women’s Police Station at the airport said that both the man and the woman were seated in window seats. “The woman has registered a complaint that she was in a window seat and while she was asleep, the accused who was sitting behind her – also in the window seat – touched her inappropriately,” the officer said.

Following the complaint, a case has been registered under section 75 (sexual harassment) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), leading to the man’s arrest.

The airline has yet to issue a formal statement regarding the incident.
