Mayawati, the president of the Bahujan Samaj Party, said on Tuesday that her party would run independent candidates in the forthcoming state elections in Jharkhand and Maharashtra, as well as in the byelections for nine assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh.
Mayawati expressed her gratitude for the vote calendar announcement in a series of Hindi postings on X, stating that the Election Commission must make sure the polls are free from the influence of money and force and are conducted as quickly as possible.
“The BSP will run for elections in these two states alone,” she said, stressing that this is part of their purpose to uphold dignity and self-respect, which was inspired by B. R. Ambedkar, and that it would also make sure that its people stay together and work toward being powerful.
The former chief minister said in another tweet, “The BSP will field its candidates in the by-elections being held on nine assembly seats in UP and will fight this election on its own strength with full preparation and vigour.” On November 20, Maharashtra will have a single phase of assembly elections. The Election Commission said on Tuesday that there would be two rounds of elections in Jharkhand on November 13 and 20.
On November 13, there will be by-poll voting. On November 23, there will be a vote count. The by-elections for nine of the ten open Legislative Assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh were declared by the Election Commission. Because an electoral appeal was still pending, bypolls in the Ayodhya district’s Milkipur seat were not announced. After their MLAs were chosen as MPs in the Lok Sabha elections, every seat became empty with the exception of Sisamau. Irfan Solanki, the SP MLA for Sisamau, lost his seat in parliament after being found guilty in a criminal case.
