Sanju Samson has been in and out of Team India since his debut in 2015. He played his maiden T20I against Zimbabwe in 2015 and stayed out of the national team for the next four years. He did make his return in 2019 but was dropped after just one series. He made his return as an injury replacement soon but is yet to cement his spot.Samson's form has seen him often get dropped and he has batted at different positions. While he has switched his position as per the team's requirements, Samson likes to open the innings. Speaking to Vimal Kumar on his YouTube channel, the wicketkeeper-batsman said: "Jitna jaldi batting aa jaye utna acha hai (the sooner I get to bat, the better it is)."Samson opened for the for the first time in T20Is against New Zealand in 2020. He failed to breach the 10-run mark in both innings. He batted at number 4 against Australia but flopped again. He missed out on a spot in the 2021 and 2022 T20 World Cup squads.Samson got to play few matches in 2023 but big scores continued to elude him. He only managed 39 runs in the first 2 matches against Bangladesh and was probably playing for his place in the squad in the third game.Samson slammed a brilliant century and played a 111-run knock off just 47 balls in the third T20I to cement his spot in the squad. He looks set to tour South Africa for the four-match T20I series.Ishan Kishan could make his return to the T20I squad. Samson will have to be at his best as any other wicketkeeper can replace him if he fails to perform. He has scored 594 runs in T20Is and 16 ODIs. The 29-year-old has also played 16 ODIs, with his previous appearance coming in December 2023.
