Binghamton University, State University of New York, is the #1 best value public university in New York and the #34 best public in the nation, according to U.S News & World Report, 2025. A few of the many reasons are that Binghamton includes a130 academic programs to choose from; the research available in every major; career opportunities and competitive tuition; and a safe, secure and happy campus community.

130 academic programs to choose from

Binghamton has more than 130 academic programs in its six schools, covering the disciplines of arts and sciences, community and public affairs, engineering and computer science, business and accounting, nursing and health sciences, and pharmacy. Popular programs for our students include biology, entrepreneurship, pre-med, pre-law, computer science and economics.

Binghamton’s School of Management (SOM) is ranked as one of the best business schools in the nation (Poets&Quants, 2024). SOM is also the #1 provider of new recruits for EY and PricewaterhouseCoopers in New York City. Top applicants are invited to join one of two honors programs sponsored by these prestigious business firms.

Research in every major

Opportunities abound to conduct research as an undergraduate at Binghamton, working alongside nationally known faculty — an opportunity not available at all universities. Binghamton is a top research university and is ranked among other elite universities in the nation that have achieved the “very high research” classification. Whether it’s finding solutions to climate change, working to address the socio-economic needs of underserved populations or furthering COVID research, our students and faculty are driven to find answers to our most pressing challenges.

Preparation for a rewarding career

The Fleishman Center for Career and Professional Development provides opportunities, education and connections that prepare students from all majors and backgrounds for advanced education, careers and successful futures. The Fleishman Center received the National Career Development Association’s Award for Service to International Students and was recognized by the National Career Development Association with the Service to International Students Award. Binghamton graduates have earned starting salaries 10% higher than the national average, five years in a row.

Graduate with less debt

Binghamton has the best four-year graduation among public colleges in New York (73%) and is 34 points higher than the U.S. national average for public colleges (39%). By graduating in four years instead of a traditional five, students save at least $30,000 and enter the workforce or grad school earlier than many of their peers. High-performing applicants are also automatically considered for merit-based scholarships.

A safe campus

Binghamton is a safety-conscious campus, with an award-winning student-run ambulance service (National Collegiate Emergency Medical Services Foundation, 2020) and a fully empowered police force. All residence hall doors are locked 24 hours a day (card access only). The Binghamton area is a safe, friendly and affordable suburban community, easily accessible by bus, car and plane. It is also close to many major cities, and only a three-hour drive from New York City.

You’ll stay healthy

Since maintaining good mental health and achieving overall wellness during college journeys is essential to student success, Binghamton provides support for healthy lifestyle choices. Whether that means breaking a sweat in a cutting-edge fitness center or the brand-new outdoor FitCourt, hiking in the 190-acre nature preserve, participating in a group sport or setting nutrition goals with help from one of our dieticians, Binghamton looks to keep its students happy and healthy.

Binghamton University also has a retention rate of 92% (students who return for sophomore year), making it one of the very best in the country. Nationwide, the average is 78% — demonstrating how Binghamton is superior in providing students access to the high-quality resources needed to succeed.
