Zoomers, also known as Generation Z, are a generation that is proud of who they are. The 25-year-old Democrat Ashwin Ramaswami wears the label of Gen Z with pride as he campaigns for a Georgia State Senate seat. The first Indian-American of Generation Z to enter American politics is Ramaswami. “I’m a computer scientist, a Gen Z member, and the son of immigrants.

According to his official website, Ashwin for Georgia, “I decided to work in public service: cybersecurity and election security in the federal government. I hold a B.S. in computer science from Stanford University and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.”

While Ramaswami was growing up in Johns Creek, Georgia, his parents immigrated to the United States in the 1990s. Despite being born in the United States, Ashwin is a devout Hindu who has always had a fascination with Indian philosophy and culture. He said in a previous interview that his parents were from Tamil Nadu and that he was raised in both Indian and American traditions.

Unlike most, Ramaswami has a plethora of content on social media that showcases his budding political career in the US. But during festival times, he takes care to wish his friends and relatives who are Hindu and Indian well. He writes, “Happy Tamil New Year and Happy Vishu!” in one post. He posted a picture of himself in an ethnic Indian outfit in another.

“Had a wonderful week of celebrations for the nine-day Hindu festival of Navaratri!” was the caption he wrote. Vijayadashami, also known as Dussehra, is the last day and signifies the triumph of good over evil. Let the pure feminine force of Devi lead us in whatever we do.

He said on his website that “he instructs high school students in Hindu philosophy and culture. He assisted in raising $100,000 at Georgetown University to create an endowment for Dharmic programs (which serve students from many faiths, including Buddhist, Hindu, Sikh, and Jain).
