Bomb threats to airlines Govt plans legislative actions News In Hindi: Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu on Monday said the central government will take steps to deal with incidents of bomb threats to airlines after recent false bomb calls on several domestic and international flights. The Civil Aviation Minister said that the government is planning to put those making such threats on the no-fly list. It is noteworthy that in the last one week, about 100 flights of Indian airlines – both domestic and international flights – have received bomb threats.

The minister said amendments are being planned to the Aviation Security Rules as well as the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against Civil Aviation Security Act, 1982. He was addressing a press conference in the national capital Delhi recently after Indian airlines received a false bomb alert.

The Civil Aviation Minister said, “…on behalf of the Ministry, we have thought about some legislative action, if it is needed. We have come to the conclusion that there are two areas, which we can consider – 1. ) Amendments to aircraft safety rules… One of the ideas we want to propagate by making changes to these rules is that once we catch the culprit behind it, we will be able to put them on the no-flying list. Want… 2) Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against Civil Aviation Safety Act…”

“We are making it a cognizable offence, so there will be punishment and fine based on that amendment,” he said.

Earlier on Sunday, 25 flights operated by major Indian airlines had received bomb threats.
