All eyes are on Mumbai Indians (MI) before the IPL 2025 retention date and the fans are waiting for a word from the franchise. MI made a bold call before IPL 2024 and they removed Rohit Sharma from captaincy. They brought back Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans via trade and handed him the captaincy. Rohit was still India's all-format captain when MI removed him.Rohit hinted at being unhappy with MI as he played the last few matches of the season as an Impact Player. There could be a case that Rohit might leave MI. The five-time IPL Champions will surely do their best to retain him and the likes of Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah. While Rohit's future with MI remains uncertain, here we have a look at how the franchise can retain Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah for Rs 20 crore each -Under the new IPL rules, a franchise can internally decide the amount it pays to its players. In this case, the amount deducted will depend on the money spent by the franchise and not the number of players retained.A total of 61 crore will be deducted from a franchise's purse if it decides to retain four players. But they can use this amount to retain even two or three players. MI can pay Rs 20 crore each to Hardik, Bumrah and Suryakumar to retain them.In this case, MI will enter the auction with a purse of 59 crore and three RTM cards. They can use the balance of 14 crore to retain the fourth capped player. It can be Rohit Sharma, Tim David, Tilak Verma or anyone else. A franchise can retain an uncapped player for Rs 4 crore. MI have the option to retain Piyush Chawla in this category as he hasn't played for Team India since 2012.
