Salt Side Effects: If there is no salt in food then taste is not felt. You cannot even imagine life without salt. Today we will discuss how much salt is necessary for our body. Lakhs of people die every year due to salt.

Effects of salt on the body
A program 'The Food Chain' has been made by BBC World Service regarding this. This tells us how dangerous salt can be for our body. However, there are many experts who say that salt is very important for our body. For example, Paul Breslin, professor of nutritional sciences at Rutgers University in the United States, told the BBC: 'Salt is essential for life.'

Salt is very important for active human cells. Furthermore, if we do not consume enough sodium, death can also occur. In fact, sodium deficiency can cause a condition called hyponatremia, which can lead to serious conditions such as confusion, vomiting, seizures, irritability, and coma.

Salt consumption and death
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), it is necessary to consume 5 grams of salt per meal per day. There are about 2 grams of sodium in 5 grams of salt. Which is equal to one teaspoon. However, people do not just eat 5 grams of salt but use double that amount. According to a WHO report, globally people consume an average of 11 grams of salt per day. This increases the risk of heart disease, gastric cancer, osteoporosis, obesity and kidney diseases.

As far as the number of deaths caused by salt per year is concerned, the World Health Organization estimates that around 18.9 lakh people worldwide die due to salt every year. Salt has no direct role in this death. Rather, salt plays a role in the origin and progression of diseases that cause people to die. That is why health experts always recommend that salt intake should be reduced. People are also given similar advice regarding sugar.
