Why is BJP, which showed momentum in Maharashtra-Jharkhand, not opening its cards in UP by-elections? Is the impact of the shock in 2024 still visible?

BJP did not delay in announcing the names of its candidates in Maharashtra and Jharkhand elections, but the wait in UP by-elections is not ending. BJP has not yet announced the names of the candidates for the by-elections on nine seats of UP, while there are three days left for the nominations to end. From BSP to SP have fielded their candidates. In such a situation, all eyes are on the candidates of BJP and its ally RLD?

The UP by-election is being considered as the semi-final of the 2027 assembly elections. BJP, which suffered a setback in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, is in no mood to take any political risk in the by-elections. This is the reason why she is making bold moves and is trying to break SP's PDA formula. On behalf of UP BJP, the top leadership of the party has prepared a panel of names of three possible candidates, while the name of the candidate for Meerapur seat has to be decided by RLD.

To remove the political confusion spread among the public due to less seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP has made a strategy to defeat SP through by-elections. That is why BJP itself is contesting 8 out of 9 assembly seats and has given one seat to Mirapur RLD. Nishad Party is demanding two seats in the by-election, but BJP is not ready for it.

Nishad Party will demand from BJP

Nishad Party chief Sanjay Nishad will meet the top leadership of BJP in Delhi on Tuesday and place his demand for seats. BJP has not given even a single seat to Nishad Party in the by-election. It is believed that the top leadership of BJP can find a way to keep Sanjay Nishad away. UP BJP has sent a list of 24 contenders for eight seats to the top leadership, which includes three names for each seat.

Names of which leaders were sent

The names sent by UP BJP from Ghaziabad Sadar seat include the names of Sanjeev Sharma, Mayank Goyal and Lalit Jaiswal. Bhola Diwakar, Surendra Diler and Mukesh Suryavanshi have been named from Khair seat of Aligarh. Names of Shefali Singh, Ramveer Singh and Manish Singh have been sent for Kundarki seat. Names of Suresh Awasthi, Neeraj Chaturvedi and Neetu Singh have been sent for Sisamau seat. Names of Suchismita Maurya, CL Bind and Uttar Maurya have been sent for Manjhwa seat.

The names of Anirudh Patel, Deepak Patel and Kavita Patel are included in Phulpur seat and the names of Awadhesh Dwivedi, Dharamraj Nishad and Ajit Singh are included in Katehari seat. The names of Sanghamitra Maurya, Anujesh Pratap Singh and daughter of Union Minister SP Singh Baghel are being discussed for Karhal seat of Mainpuri.

BJP made a special strategy

The BJP leadership is making every effort to ensure that 100 percent results in the by-elections come in favor of the BJP. Therefore the party has made a special strategy. The names of the candidates for the UP by-elections have been discussed in the meeting of the Central Election Committee held to decide the candidates for the assembly election states, but before giving the final seal, the party wants to look at every aspect in detail, because the by-elections. The results will also impact the 2027 assembly elections. That is why BJP is not showing any haste.

Attempt to solve caste equation

SP has used PDA in Uttar Pradesh by-elections. To counter SP's formula, BJP is trying to solve the caste equation on every seat. It is believed that BJP will decide the candidates on this basis only, in which only the backward and Dalit communities are likely to get more chances. If we look at the names sent by UP BJP, most of them are from OBC and backward class. Similarly, RLD has also not been able to finalize the name of the candidate for Meerapur seat yet due to caste equations.

Meerapur important for RLD

Muslim, Jat and Gurjar voters play a decisive role in Meerapur assembly seat. RLD is trying to field a candidate after making a lot of noise. For this, the party is looking at clean faces as well as caste equations. RLD had fought the 2022 assembly elections in alliance with SP, whereas this time it is in alliance with BJP and is also included in the central and state governments. In such a situation, this seat has become very important for RLD. Former BSP MP Mulak Nagar and current MP Chandan Chauhan want their respective family members to contest from Meerapur seat. Let us see whose name Jayant Chaudhary approves?
