A shocking incident unfolded aboard a train travelling from Barmer, Rajasthan, to Haridwar in Uttarakhand when a railway head constable discovered a crying newborn left unattended under a blanket in a coach. The discovery, made at berth number 71 in the S4 coach, raised significant concerns about the circumstances surrounding the infant’s abandonment.

The incident occurred when the head constable, Bhimaram Poonad, investigated the source of distressing cries coming from a seat and was met with a harrowing sight: a one-day-old baby lying in a vulnerable state beneath the blanket. Immediate efforts were made to locate the child’s parents, but after an extensive search, no one came forward. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) promptly intervened, taking the infant to the Barmer District Hospital for urgent medical care.

At the hospital, the newborn received first aid from Dr Shyam Singh Bhati before being admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for ongoing treatment. Dr Harish Chauhan, the NICU in-charge, informed Local 18 that the baby’s condition remains critical, and medical staff are closely monitoring the child’s health over the next 24 hours.

This distressing episode has sparked discussions about the safety and welfare of vulnerable infants, particularly in public transportation settings. The Railway Protection Force is now conducting a thorough investigation into the incident, aiming to uncover more about how the child came to be abandoned in such a precarious situation.
