Indian city of Bhubaneswar (Odisha), October 23: Tonight, Odisha FC beat East Bengal FC 2-1 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. It was their second win of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season. After East Bengal FC scorer Dimitrios Diamantakos scored a penalty kick in extra time of the first half, experienced stars Roy Krishna and Mourtada Fall scored one goal each in each half to win the game.

The Red & Gold Brigade lost for the sixth time in a row in the ISL season and the second time in a row with new head coach Oscar Bruzon in charge. In the 22nd minute, the unstoppable Krishna set the stage for that by scoring his fourth goal against East Bengal FC in the tournament. A statement said that Livewire kid Isak Vanlalruatfela had a lot of room on the left side when he hit Krishna with a slightly long-range through ball.

The shooter was in the right place at the right time to get through the defense of the other team. He easily grabbed the ball, ran forward, and beat East Bengal FC goalie Prabhsukhan Singh Gill in a one-on-one match to put the ball in the bottom right corner.

Odisha FC held on to their lead strong until the end of the first half, when defender Thoiba Singh messed up and touched the ball in the penalty area. The official gave East Bengal FC a penalty kick, and Diamantakos stepped up to score his first goal in five ISL games and end his goalless run. He put the ball in the bottom right corner with his left foot, going past an Amrinder Singh who was fully stretched out.

In the second half, Odisha FC had to take back control of the game, and Fall and Ahmed Jahouh, two of Lobera’s trusted assistants, once again stepped up to the challenge. The two players turned the game around with a long free kick on the inside channel of the right wing. Jahouh’s perfect delivery found Fall exactly where he needed to be, and in the 69th minute, Fall nodded the ball home to give his team the lead again.

When Provat Lakra got a second yellow card for a hit on Jahouh in the 76th minute, things got even worse for East Bengal FC. They were missing a player, so they couldn’t catch up to a well-coordinated Odisha FC team. Odisha FC won and took all three points. With this loss, East Bengal FC became the second team in ISL history to lose their first six games of the season. The first team was NorthEast United FC in 2022–23, who lost all 10 of their first games.

Roy Krishna made a stop, a pass, and a chance to score a goal. He may have been the most important player in this game, though, because of how well he played off the ball to set up his goal.

The next game for Odisha FC is on October 27 against Mumbai City FC. On November 9, East Bengal FC plays Mohammedan SC in the Kolkata Derby.
