Galatasaray head coach Okan Buruk underwent emergency surgery today after suffering a burst appendix.
The 51-year-old coach, who recently led Galatasaray to a close 4-3 win over Swedish club Elfsborg in the UEFA Europa League, experienced sudden severe abdominal pain earlier this afternoon. After an immediate diagnosis, doctors confirmed a burst appendix, prompting urgent surgery.
Following the operation, Galatasaray shared that Buruk’s surgery was successful, noting in a statement, “Our Football A-Team Head Coach Okan Buruk underwent a successful operation this afternoon due to an unexpected appendicitis issue. We extend our best wishes for his swift recovery.”
The club reassured fans that Buruk is conscious and stable, with his doctors expressing no immediate concerns about his health.
The health crisis occurred just days before Galatasaray’s highly anticipated Super League derby against Besiktas, scheduled for Monday.
