Amid recent confusion regarding the celebration date for Diwali, the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has confirmed that the festival will take place on October 31 this year. VHP spokesperson Sharad Sharma clarified in a statement to India Today TV that the date of Diwali is indeed October 31.

Sharma explained, "This year, Amavasya coincides with the 14th day of the fortnight (paksh), and Diwali will be observed on the night of October 31, as Amavasya begins that afternoon." This clarification resolves the uncertainty that arose over whether the festival would be observed on October 31 or November 1.

Deepotsav and Hanuman Jayanti Observances

In addition to the Diwali celebrations, Sharma noted that Deepotsav, a traditional festival celebrated the day before Diwali, will occur on October 30. Anil Mishra, a member of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra, reiterated Sharma's confirmation that Diwali festivities are scheduled for October 31.

Significance of Diwali

Diwali, known as the festival of lights, is celebrated to mark the victory of good over evil. It commemorates the return of Lord Rama, his wife Sita, and brother Lakshmana to Ayodhya after their 14-year exile and the defeat of the demon king Ravana. The festival holds great significance for millions of people, who light lamps and decorate their homes to celebrate this joyous occasion.

The upcoming festivities are expected to bring families and communities together in a celebration of culture and tradition.
