Financial year 2024 was a great year for tech and e-commerce companies like Meta, Google, Flipkart and Amazon. All these companies have collectively earned a revenue of more than Rs 60 thousand crores from advertising alone. According to the Registrar of Companies filing, in the financial year 2023, these companies had earned Rs 55,053 crore from advertising. It is clear from this that the advertising earnings of these companies have increased by 9 percent in the financial year 2024.
This is the first time that the Indian branches of Meta and Google have crossed the combined gross revenue of Rs 50,000 crore. On the other hand, the ad revenue of the marketplace branches of Amazon and Flipkart has been recorded at more than Rs 10 thousand crores, the thing to note here is that Flipkart Internet alone has earned about Rs 5 thousand crores.
Amazon Seller Services has not yet published its annual report, but in the financial year 2023, the company had earned an ad revenue of Rs 5,380 crore. If sources are to be believed, there are indications that the company's ad revenue in the report may be higher than last year.
Advertising industry experts say that the jump in ad revenue figures of companies shows the growth of digital advertising in India. Experts say that the reach of Meta and Google is very high and these companies also benefit from this, that is why these companies are earning ad revenue from advertisers.
On the other hand, e-commerce platforms are helping in increasing the sales of brands. ET report states that it is estimated that the quick commerce sector can earn between Rs 2500 crore to Rs 3000 crore annually from advertising.
Google India has recorded gross advertising revenue of 11 percent in the financial year ending March 2024. Google India's revenue of Rs 28,040 crore in FY 23 increased to Rs 31,221 crore in FY 2024. At the same time, the gross advertising revenue of Meta India in FY 24 has increased from Rs 18,308 crore to Rs 22,730 crore in FY 2023. The ad revenue of Flipkart Internet has increased by 50 percent and the company has earned a total of Rs 4,972 crore.
