Recently, relations between Maldives and India had seen a sour moment, but now the hope of them coming back on their sweet path has increased. This was also confirmed when Maldivian President Mohammed Muizzu visited India recently. Now Maldives hopes that like every time, India will become its biggest support in the coming year and it will get help of Rs 875 crore (about 1.6 billion Maldivian Rufiyaa).
Actually, Maldives receives a huge amount of help every year from its foreign friendly countries. In such a situation, the Maldives government estimates that India will give it a grant aid of Rs 875 crore in 2025. This is 72 percent of the total foreign aid it receives from friendly countries.
According to the news of news website 'Aadhadhoo.com', the budget was presented in the Parliament of Maldives on Thursday. This estimate has been made for foreign aid in Maldives' budget 2025. Under Budget Proposal 2025, the administration led by President Mohamed Muizzu has estimated a total of 2.25 billion Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR) in international grant assistance.
In this, there is a possibility of getting 72 percent of the foreign grant-in-aid from India. This is 1.6 billion MVR (about 875 crore Indian rupees).
Maldives also gets major aid from China. Therefore, in 2025 it can get MVR 502 million from China. This is about 22 percent of the foreign aid it receives. Apart from this, the Maldives government is also expected to receive grants-in-aid from other friendly countries like Japan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Netherlands.
According to the report, India has provided 'substantial' financial assistance to Maldives this year. Last month, during President Mohammad Muizzu's visit to India, India had announced an aid amount of 400 million dollars (about Rs 3,360 crore).
The current President of Maldives, Mohammed Muizzu is considered very close to China. A major part of his election campaign was 'anti-India'. Therefore, due to his initial attitude, relations between Maldives and India appeared to have soured slightly.
