Indian Railways: Many of us might think that Vande Bharat Express trains or Rajdhani Express trains are the most VIP trains in India but there is a train for which even these special trains have to stop and give way. In most countries in the unfortunate event of a railway accident relief and rescue operations are led by civil authorities similar to road accident protocols. However in India the Indian Railways takes full responsibility for all rescue and relief efforts. So here are the details about the train which is given the topmost priority in India.
The Indian Railways has an organized system of relief for managing accidents with its own resources. Whenever an accident is reported by the guard or loco pilot of the train to the nearest station or divisional control room and the nearest railway stations the Indian Railways decides to run the Accident Relief Trains and Accident Relief Medical trains.
For faster initial response and for quickest possible medical attention and restoration the Indian Railways has also inducted Self Propelled Accident Relief Trains (SPART) capable of 160 kmph speed on IR system.
All Accident Relief Trains and Accident Relief Medical Vans have pre-defined beats inspection schedules and response time. In addition there are 90 Break down Cranes of various capacities over Indian Railway system.
Update on Accident Relief Medical Vans
Indian Railways is also replacing its locomotive hauled Accident Relief Medical Vans (ARMVs) with Self Propelled Accident Relief Medical Vans (SPARMVs) to improve response during disaster. Specification of high speed Self Propelled Accident Relief Trains (HS-SPARTs) with speed of 160 kmph has been finalized and it is planned to be procured in addition to existing 110 kmph SPART.
Additionally in order to improve the capacity during restoration 175 Tonnes cranes are under procurement which is an upgradation over existing 140 T cranes available with Indian Railways. The concept of golden hour has also been recognised to expedite response time during disaster.
In conclusion while we often see the Vande Bharat and Rajdhani Express trains as symbols of priority and speed in Indian Railways there exists an even more crucial train which is always given priority. This special train designed for rapid response in emergencies highlights Indias unique approach where the railways lead relief and rescue operations ensuring that help arrives as swiftly as possible. It stands as a testament to Indian Railways dedication not only to transportation but to the lives and safety of all who travel by train.
