For the first time in the 92-year history of Indian cricket, Team India had to face the shame of being completely wiped out in a series at home. New Zealand became the first cricket team to do so. Kiwi team surprised the whole world and captured the series by defeating Team India 3-0. For the first time, the Indian team had to face defeat in 3 consecutive Test matches in the same series at home. In such a situation, captain Rohit Sharma is everyone's target and now former Indian captain and great batsman Sunil Gavaskar has made a big demand. Regarding Team India's tour of Australia, Gavaskar has demanded to appoint a separate captain and he has given a special reason for this.
Team India lost the series with the defeat in the Pune Test match against New Zealand. Even after this, there was hope that the Indian team would win the last match of the series but this also could not happen and in Mumbai also Team India surrendered, the result of which was seen in the form of a crushing defeat of 3-0. After this shameful defeat, now Team India has to tour Australia, where 5 test matches are to be played. Looking at the current situation, good performance is not expected from Team India.
After the poor performance of the team and shocking decisions, questions are being raised on the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. Amidst all this, former captain Gavaskar has demanded to appoint a separate captain for that tour. It is not that he has talked about removing Rohit from the captaincy, but he has asked to do so for a special reason. Actually, it is not certain that Rohit will play in the first Test match to be held in Perth on Australia tour. Rohit may sit out of the first match due to family reasons, while there is doubt about playing in the second test.
Regarding this matter, Gavaskar has talked about making a separate captain. In an interview given to a YouTube channel, Gavaskar said that it is important for the captain to play in the first Test match, especially after a crushing defeat like 0-3. He said that in such situations, when the team is struggling, it is important for the captain of the team to be there from the beginning. He definitely said that if there is an injury while playing the first Test, then the vice-captain can take the responsibility but if the captain does not play from the first Test itself, then there is pressure on the vice-captain during the series.
Gavaskar said that if there is doubt about Rohit Sharma playing in the first 2-3 matches then the selectors should announce a different captain (vice-captain). He further said that after this, the same player should remain the captain for the entire series and Rohit Sharma should come in the middle of the series and play only as a player. Gavaskar believes that in this situation there is continuity in the team and the players do not face any problem in working together with the captain. He also said that if Team India had defeated New Zealand in the series and then the captain did not play the first one or two Tests, then it would have been understandable but now the situation is different.
