The Election Commission of India revised the voting dates in Kerala, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh on Monday, marking a major move ahead of by-elections.
Originally scheduled for November 13, the by-elections for two Assembly seats in Kerala, four Assembly seats in Punjab, and nine Assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh will now take place on November 20. However, the counting day remains unchanged, and the results will be announced on November 23 as previously planned. According to a statement from the poll authority, the decision to reschedule the dates in these states was made in light of approaching festivals.
“To avoid any possible decline in voter turnout during the festive season, the decision was made in response to requests from parties including Congress, BJP, BSP, RLD, and other national and state-level parties,” the EC said.
