will be getting a man whose managerial duties seem to stretch way beyond those of other people in his position when they welcome Ruben Amorim to the club. The 39-year-old still pays the rent for one of his former players in Portugal after authorities allegedly threatened to take his children away.

Amorim will report for duty at Old Trafford next Monday after in Manchester.

He will succeed Erik ten Hag after the Dutchman was at the start of last week following the Red Devils' underwhelming start to the campaign.

Amorim began his managerial career in 2018 with Casa Pia, who were plying their trade in the Portuguese third division at the time.

And his boyhood friend Bruno Simao has shed light on Amorim's character after he spent six months playing under his compatriot at the Lisbon-based outfit.

During an interview with , Simao explained: "He pushed the president. 'My players need this'. Casa Pia was semi-professional, but everything was professional. He paid from his own pocket to help the club and players."

The outlet have revealed that one player at the club didn't have enough money to pay his rent or look after his children, with the authorities threatening to take them away from him and his partner.

"Amorim promised this boy that he would pay his rent every month," Simao added. And United's new manager is still fulfilling that role.

Simao is full of praise for his friend, despite Amorim's initial reluctance to sign him due to a desire to keep personal and professional matters separate.

And the former left-back has also stated that Amorim would pay for barbecues and team meals out. "We would spend a couple of hours together with him and the team," he said. "When we make a strong group, players with coaches, no one can get inside."

Before completing his move to England, Amorim will get the opportunity to go head-to-head with Pep Guardiola as his Sporting side are due to host Manchester City in the on Tuesday. The former midfielder will then manage his current team for the final time during their league clash against his former club Braga at the weekend.

His seat in the United dugout is currently being kept warm by former Red Devils striker Ruud van Nistelrooy. The Dutchman guided the team to a 5-2 victory over last week and backed that up with a 1-1 draw against Chelsea on Sunday.
