Today, the BCCI is pondering the reasons behind the absence of their top stars, such as captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, during the recent Duleep Trophy. This event took place just before the commencement of their home season against Bangladesh in September. Before this Test series, India last played a Test in March, after which IPL commenced and then the T20 World Cup. Reports were indicating that the Duleep Trophy is expected to feature notable Indian Test players such as Rohit, Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, and more. Yet, the seniors initially agreed to participate, only to later withdraw. Kohli managed 192 runs in 10 innings in this home season whereas Rohit was worse with 133 in 10 innings with 1 fifty each.Former Indian player Sanjay Manjrekar says that Indian selectors should learn from recent experience and ask their well-rested well-rested players to participate in domestic cricket. “The big learning for the selectors from this home season is that do not rest the already well-rested players because of their stature. I say this again, both Rohit & Virat would only have benefited from playing the Duleep Trophy start of the season," Sanjay Manjrekar on X.
