Online travel booking platform MakeMyTrip said in a report on Wednesday that Thailand has overtaken Maldives. The travel platform said in a statement that honeymoon package bookings in Maldives declined by 16.2 per cent year-on-year, while the share of all other top major international destinations – Indonesia, Mauritius and Vietnam has increased this year. Maldives, which topped the ranking last year, has been overtaken by Thailand this year. Thailand's booking share grew by 5.2 percent annually, overtaking Maldives. Domestically, Andaman has overtaken Kerala as the most booked honeymoon destination. Honeymoon package bookings for Andaman have increased by 6.9 percent on an annual basis. Bookings in Kashmir have increased by 3.6 percent and it has reached third place.
The number of bookings for Goa remained the same as last year, while Himachal Pradesh saw a four percent decline in honeymoon package bookings. Rajesh Mago, Co-Founder and Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO), MakeMyTrip, said that as the wedding season approaches in India, there is a surge in demand for honeymoon travel packages.
